Vegetable gardening 2011

We’re having a restrained year this year.  A lot of our planting is later than usual, and there is less of it, and it’s less adventurous. That combined with the weather has meant things are generally growing quite well – 2011 is the year of the Least Leggy Tomatoes and the Least Tortured Courgettes.

Here’s a quick trot around to kick off:

Main veg bed:

  • Garlic (an unmemorable spring planting from the garden centre)
  • Shallots (ditto)
  • Pea Sugar Ann (seeds from the excellent value Alan Romans)
  • Potato Sharpe’s Express

This bed also contains some wild garlic which we are transplanting to wilder areas. Later, we’ll plant out courgettes – Soleil and Spineless Beauty, both F1 types.

Tomato Gardener’s Delight – 8 plants at the most

Cucumber La Dive – possibly two plants, maybe one outside

Chilli – Mr Fothergill’s Hotscotch Habanero/Scotch Bonnet mix, and a couple of Cayennes from the garden centre.
