50% self-sufficient dinner

When we had chickens we often managed quite elaborate (for us) self-sufficient dinners.  This year we have to be less ambitious but last night’s dinner was a step in the right direction.  On the credit and debit side as Bertie Wooster would put it: credit – new potatoes, shallots, salad leaves, rosemary, parsley, borage, from the garden, plus home-made mayonnaise with local free-range eggs; debit – tinned mixed beans and olive oil from lovely Suma, and quite uncalled for tomatoes from Waitrose, who also provided dessert (strawberries and cream).  Also on the credit side – it looked and tasted tippity top, even if we did ham it up a little with the borage flower garnish…
